Self Esteem

The saying ‘fake it till you make it’ is a very powerful tool when it comes to raising self-esteem, and one we should adopt more readily. Childhood is fraught with confusing messages. It helps shape the adult self, even when those messages are incorrect or unjust. We could be harbouring negative beliefs about ourselves that were said in jest, from jealousy, in anger, or by a tired parent, teacher or care giver. Said enough times, these can eat away at self-esteem, and probably weren’t said in the way they were perceived. How many times have you said something you didn’t mean?

We are conditioned to listen more to negative comments than positive, especially when it comes to thoughts about ourselves.

We need to work on our own belief system and self-esteem constantly. Even successful people have self-doubt. It’s completely normal, and if we suffer from bouts of low self-esteem it proves that we are well-rounded, balanced and caring individuals.
